As we are now aware that Samsung isn’t going to update the Galaxy S I9000 international models to the latest Android OS 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), the only way to get the new OS is via installing a custom ROM. The ICSSGS team has done an amazing job in building this custom ROM for our beloved Galaxy S. This ROM is based directly on the source code straight from Google themselves, the way Android is meant to be. So don’t wait anymore and get the latest and greatest OS running on your I9000 right away. Details after the jump.
Please note: This ROM is still in beta and you may face bugs. However, I have been using it as my daily driver without any issues. Also, this is an AOSP based ROM, you wont find any TouchWiz love in it.
Here’s the instructions on how to install this custom ROM on your Galaxy S I9000:
Warning: I M NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR BRICKED/SMOKED PHONES. DO IT ON YOUR OWN RISK.
1: Before you can install this ROM, you must be on a stock and rooted Gingerbread OS. (Dont ask me how to do this).
2: Download the ICSSGS 4.0.3 MR1 RC4.2 GT-I9000.zip file (link below) and copy it on your Internal SD Card (Not external SD).
3: Boot into Clockworkmod (CWM) recovery and wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition & wipe Dalvik Cache.
4: Select “install zip from sdcard”, then select “choose zip from sdcard”. Select the .zip that you downloaded and confirm it.
5: While in CWM, select Wipe Data/Factory Reset, wipe cache partition and wipe Dalvik Cache.
6: Install Semaphore Kernel (Same steps at step # 4). (Download link below)
7: Reboot the phone and wait for it to be loaded.
Note: It can take a maximum time of 10 minutes for the 1st boot.
