Vibrant T959 is a Samsung Galaxy S variant sold by T-Mobile in USA. However, unlike other Galaxy S variants, Vibrant runs on Android Froyo 2.2. T-Mobile hasn’t even released a 2.2.1 firmware upgrade for Vibrant. On the other hand, Galaxy S I9000 was recently upgraded to Android Gingerbread 2.3.5 (XXJVS) firmware.
explodingboy70, a recognized developer at XDA Forums, has successfully ported the stock XXJVS ROM for Vibrant T959 named Simply Stock JVS 2.3.5.
Here’s the instructions on how to install this custom ROM on your T-Mobile Vibrant T959:
Warning: I M NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR BRICKED/SMOKED PHONES. DO IT ON YOUR OWN RISK.
1: Start with a rooted eclair/froyo rom. (Dont ask me how to do this).
2: Install Gingerbread bootloaders from this page. (Do not skip this or else the phone will show RAINBOW colors while booting up).
3: Download Simply Stock JVS 2.3.5 from here and put it on your SD card/phone memory.
4: Go to Clockworkmod recovery and perform factory reset/wipe data, wipe cache and wipe Dalvik cache.
5: Install Simply Stock JVS 2.3.5 and reboot the phone.
6: Wait for 15 minutes before doing ANYTHING and reboot again. Enjoy.
Optional: Calibrate the battery. See this article for more info.
Update: Some users are experiencing bootloop after installing this ROM. In this case,
a: Reboot to Download mode by pressing the Vol Up+Power button and connect the USB cable to your PC.
b: Download Bullet GB Voodoo KERNEL from here.
c: Open ODIN (link below) and click on PDA and select the Bullet GB Voodoo kernel and click on Start. The phone will then reboot. Enjoy the new Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread ROM without waiting anymore.
Ever since T-Mobile has released the Vibrant 4G (T959v), they have stopped releasing any firmware upgrade for Vibrant T959. I m sure they will never release Gingerbread ROM for Vibrant. Low hardware phones like LG Optimus One and HTC Wildfire are being upgraded to Gingerbread but Vibrant is still at Froyo even though the specs are similar to that of the original Galaxy S I9000.
Shame on you T-Mobile. Thanks to XDA.

Sep 19, 2011 @ 07:34:13
Could you please give step by step instructions how to install this rom ? I don’t understand what to do in ROM Manager. I
1) placed Simply_Stock_JVS_2.3.5.zip on flash card
2) launched ROM Manager, clicked on “Flash Clockworkmod Recovery”
3) selected Samsung Vibrant
4) went to “Install ROM from SD Card”
5) selected given .zip
6) it asked to reboot the phone which happened very fast
7) phone rebooted into recovery console which has following items: reboot the phone, clear usercache, reinstall packages.
When I select “reboot the phone” it launched my old ROM (2.2)
What did I miss ?
Thanks !
Sep 19, 2011 @ 10:52:34
From step 7, do not click on Reboot. Click on Reinstall Packages. Then the phone will restart. You might be in the same stock recovery. If yes, then click on Reinstall Packages once again. Then the stock recovery will be replaced by CLockworkmod recovery. Then reboot and follow your step 1-7. It will work.

You get a lot of repscet from me for writing these helpful articles.
Sep 19, 2011 @ 08:09:00
Maybe I should rename rom’s zip to update.zip ?
Sep 19, 2011 @ 12:55:39
When I choose “Reinstall packages” output is always like this
– Install from sdcard…
Finding update package…
Opening update package…
Verifying update package…
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted
Sep 20, 2011 @ 07:01:32
Well, since yesterday I’ve discovered a lot about flashing… So after I bricked the phone I was able to recover it to original 2.1 ROM. After that I installed update.zip with root and clockworkmod and was able to install Simply_Stock_JVS_2.3.5.zip. After reboot it goes into loop as you described in your post. I flashed Bullet-JVP-1.2Ghz-v6.1-voodoo.tar but it didn’t help because it also goes into infinite loop with robotized female voice says “Convert data partition. Not enough space on partition.”.
Could you please suggest how to fix it ?
Thank you.
Jan 19, 2012 @ 19:44:27
I’ve the same ( I believe for you it’s to late, but maybe another one need the help:
Flash a Rom with Voodoo Support, e.g. Bionix 1.3.1 THis romm installed the CWM with Voodoo suport. Go into the recovery , disable all Voodoo setting, reboot.
After reboot go into the Recovery, flash the Rom and be happy
Sep 20, 2011 @ 07:21:50
My god, I did it. What a clusterfuck. And no need to flash Bullet. It didn’t work because of lagfix.
So here is recap of what I’ve done:
1) Since I bricked the phone I reflashed it with original 2.1 ROM taken here: http://goo.gl/nAkwK
2) Installed update.zip with root and clockworkmod from here: http://goo.gl/SBJPO
3) Copied Simply_Stock_JVS_2.3.5.zip. Please note in your post that ROM must be copied to INTERNAL SD, not external one. I didn’t know about the difference.
4) Rebooted into Clockworkmod recovery and disabled lagfix.
5) Installed the ROM via clockworkmod.
Phone rebooted and everything works nicely without Bullet.

Hi Ruslan, glad you got it sorted. However, with the current Talon SH Kernel, GPS wont work. So if you wanna get GPS, flash the bullet kernel.
Sep 22, 2011 @ 11:30:40
Hi Akshay, download this bootloader: http://goo.gl/0E8TE

Sep 29, 2011 @ 02:37:47

Register to that website and get the latest Swype version. That new version will work fine.
Sep 30, 2011 @ 07:34:56
Hi, Dinesh.
I did the steps you said. I tried the first one. I got the bootloop. THen i installed the bullet kernel. Then I got bootloop again…
Do you know what can it be?
I think she says “boot lag fix is now activated” then it restarts…
Thank you.
Sep 30, 2011 @ 20:05:16
Reboot to recovery by pressing vol down + power button.
Then go to Voodoo and disable voodoo. Then reboot the phone. Wait for 10 mins and it should boot up right away.
Oct 02, 2011 @ 23:12:26
let there be no “option”
you have to disable lagfix and you have to use bullet kernel
I just finished the flash, letting in “marinate” right now..
will post update in about 1 hr
thank you…
Oct 02, 2011 @ 23:52:09
can you / should you enable voodoo after it is installed? seems really slow and laggy now..
Oct 03, 2011 @ 15:41:04
Yes, go to recovery and re-enable voodoo. This ROM is very fast and stable.
Oct 03, 2011 @ 23:35:49
do I need to / can I / should I
flash the gps fix zip?
what about seeing the percentage of battery on the screen?
thanks!!
Oct 04, 2011 @ 00:54:58
I went in and re enabled VOODOO!! it is very fast and stable
I got the swype beta, but can’t get it to show what I am swyping?
Is there a wi-falling mod?
thanks!! loving it!!
Oct 04, 2011 @ 06:18:52
Hi TBone, wifi calling is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1147477
Battery percentage on the screen isnt available. This is one feature I m missing the most.
GPS wont work at all with Talon SH kernel. Install Bullet kernel and GPS will work.
Oct 04, 2011 @ 06:47:23
perfect
thanks ..
any ideas on what I am doing wrong— swype not showing??
Oct 04, 2011 @ 07:19:25
ok.
got that wifi.zip, flashed it through CWM, is there a trick to “seeing” it?
Oct 04, 2011 @ 09:40:04
Do I need bullet as well for wi-fi calling?
Oct 04, 2011 @ 10:25:58
Ok..
tried that file on standard kernel that comes with simply stock can’t see wifi calling
tried it w/ bullet… had to reinstall ROM
Oct 04, 2011 @ 15:06:14
Im not sure about wifi calling as i dont use it. You may check with the developer of the ROM on XDA.
Oct 06, 2011 @ 21:59:37
Man I wish understood this ROM–
It worked for a few days.. then when I rebooted after a charge, it went into boot loop again.. disabled voodoo .. no change……I reodined.. it “worked” but then when Simply opened, there were abotu 20 force close messages and it failed.. did it again.. same result..
Is there a way to delete “everything” from phone.. so there are no ghost files..??
Is the new superuser app causing problems?
I am back on stock 2.2 now
Oct 07, 2011 @ 03:21:50
Ok cool I found the solution on XDA–
it works
In recovery there is mounts and storage. After you have the rom on your SD go there and format data, cache and system-
then flash and good to go
Oct 07, 2011 @ 03:23:05
now..
If I can find a wifi calling zip that works.. I will be A+
Oct 07, 2011 @ 06:25:27
Glad to know you found a fix. Its strange though, I never had any issues running this ROM.
Oct 09, 2011 @ 22:55:57
hey Dinesh..
there is a new Simply Stock
JVT
also..
if get rom toolbox app, there is a battery gauge mod that works
you can change the icon… I picked the circle green one..
only thing missing now is WIFI calling….
got swype..
got battery gauge..
thanks again
Oct 10, 2011 @ 06:48:48
Yeah, just saw that new JVT build.
Oct 10, 2011 @ 08:44:05
It is sweet
man… if they could get a wifi calling app on it.. I would pay for it
Oct 18, 2011 @ 22:32:32
can some 1 please upload the screen snapshots of the updated firmware….
Oct 21, 2011 @ 16:53:45
Does this ROM support moving emails between folders in Exchange?
Does the GPS work?
Oct 21, 2011 @ 23:22:39
Yes, the GPS works with Bullet Kernel. I m not sure about moving emails. You can check this with the ROM developer about this feature.
Oct 28, 2011 @ 10:17:17
I was able to get out of the boot loop by holding a combination of the volume button and Oden, but it took a many tries so I can’t be sure what the exact method is.
I can confirm that email folders work great in Exchange.
During phone calls the phone suddenly reboots. It’s happened 5 times already with no warning. The phone just goes dead and it’s suddenly booting up.
The up/down volume button is reversed but I can live with that.
Oct 22, 2011 @ 14:49:33
I’m stuck in the boot loop but can’t get it to connect to Oden, therefore cannot flash the Bullet GB Voodoo KERNEL. Any suggestions?
Oct 23, 2011 @ 16:23:34
If you have flashed GB bootloaders then switch off your phone, press and hold the vol up + power button to enter download mode. Then flash Bullet kernel via ODIN.
This MUST work.
Oct 25, 2011 @ 02:24:10
best method I found is, boot to download when you are done with flash, it is a choice you have in recovery… then use ODIN for bullet, but if you are in bootloop..most likely it is voodoo.. not kernel.. disable voodoo on first boot..then go back and reenable
Oct 26, 2011 @ 14:35:26
I just went into download mode and flash bullet kernel and the phone booted up right away. I did not have to disable voodoo. Its a good move though.
Nov 15, 2011 @ 21:33:44
TV output works ?
Nov 16, 2011 @ 02:30:06
Yes TV output works.
Nov 17, 2011 @ 08:44:59
I cannot escape from bootloop.
I cannot even go into recovery mode or download mode.
HELP ME.
Dec 10, 2011 @ 08:04:37
hey check it,in short terms,if u already have update zip on internal sd that was provided from rom manager when flashing recovery then keep that there.no needed root required.ones odine its done let the phone reboot untill sd cards are completely scan/now turn phone back off {please note that the only update zip on internal is the one from recovery other wise this wont be helpfull}now hold volume (d)&(u)+power count 4seconds letgo all buttons real quickly now hold the volume down and power only for 2quick seconds and releasescroll to aply update zip and wait till it come back in less than 10 seconds then do it flash update zip and it will turn green takes u to full custom recovery wipe everything and flash ur self of shoice new rom.important if this doesnt work 4 u then the easy way to get download mode will be/ take battery out and place it back in / dont plug in phone just yet ,open odin first with open as administrater /make shure u dont touch power button just volume up and volume down hold untill the box on top left hand turns yellow that means it recognized the phone /pick ur pit file and pda then pres o.k and ur set with odin.this is full stock 2.2.1 rom jus like it came from store good luck.ive been tru alot with bricking since the g1 first came out.
Nov 26, 2011 @ 19:31:47
it work perfect for me still testing it but it seems just fine thanks a lot i really like this

Anthony, ODIN back to stock 2.1 ROM. Then you’ll be able to flash this ROM. Your current ROM is using the edify script hence you’re getting this error.
Dec 02, 2011 @ 00:12:04
Hello.
I downloaded the new ROM and tried installing it. Like others I went into the bootloop. Tried the solution you posted, but ODIN does not even show my phone in the ID:COM section.
BTW I can only go into download mode, but not into recovery mode.
Please help
Jan 08, 2012 @ 02:55:24
I’m in the same situation:
- Can only boot to download mode.
- ODIN doesn’t recognize the phone
- Heimdall Suite 1.3 does, and I can flash Bullet Kernel with it, but it get stucked in “GALAXY S 4G / exclusively from T-Mobile” logo
Jan 08, 2012 @ 14:29:55
Alek, This ROM is for T959 vibrant. Not for Galaxy S 4G.
Jan 11, 2012 @ 21:54:13
Great thanks to you!!!
I downloaded the a correct ROM (sgs4g-OfficalGB2.3.6.zip), flashed with “Install zip from sd card” and it works fine.
But now I have a bigger problem:
When the phone boot up it fills the screen with coloured lines (and after this it works ok). I’ve read the it can be solved updating the bootloader, but… I fotgot that the bootloaders I have previously downloaded were for T959 instead of T959V. I flashed ok with Odin and now the phone doesn’t boot up in any way.
Ufff… Is there any emergency procedure to flash a correct bootloader?
I’m in panic!
Dec 02, 2011 @ 00:13:47
Also, I handn’t flashed the bootloaders when I tried to install hte ROM
Jan 12, 2012 @ 22:43:32
HEY YOYO, I HAVE SAME PROBLEM. DID YOU GET ANY SOLUTION??
Dec 12, 2011 @ 00:34:30
Im getting the message power reset or unknown upload now
Can you help me get it back to stock?
Jan 08, 2012 @ 14:32:13
Omar, did you install the Gingerbread boot loaders before flashing this ROM?
Dec 17, 2011 @ 01:48:57
@Omar
just Odin flash to stock rom? search the term ODIN FLASH STOCK ROM on xda forum you will find solution and procedure.
Dec 18, 2011 @ 21:40:07
when i flash bullet kernel volume rocker is back words?
Jan 08, 2012 @ 14:31:33
Hi Wayne, delete the cache and dalvik cache and flash the bullet kernel once again. This issue is caused by the inbuilt Talon kernel.
Dec 22, 2011 @ 20:52:35
Hello my name is Noel, I know I have to do to get this rom to recognize a Fancy Camera Front, plan to buy the camera but I have nothing as sure about the Vibrant hare I recognize the two cameras.
Watch for your reply Greetings from Honduras CA
Jan 08, 2012 @ 14:30:38
Hi Noel, front camera wont work with the Bullet Kernel. Not sure about the Talon Kernel though.
Jan 12, 2012 @ 22:32:53
Dinesh, pl. help me…..
I rooted the smasung vibrant with Odin, I installed update.zip with root and clockworkmod and was able to install Simply_Stock_JVS_2.3.5.zip. But I didnt Installed Gingerbread bootloaders. After reboot it goes into infinite loop with robotized female voice says “Convert data partition. Not enough space on partition.” I am also unable to see recovery mode screen on my phone. I can do nothing. Pl. tell me any solution.
Jan 15, 2012 @ 13:07:31
ODIN back to stock Android 2.1 ROM and start the whole process again. This time, dont forget to install the GB ROM.
Jan 15, 2012 @ 18:00:14
just flash the GB bootloader by odin link given avobe and then sure disable the voodoo lagfix on recovery. after you have a successfull installation u can enable the voodoo again….
Jan 22, 2012 @ 18:39:48
I’m a complete amateur in these stuffs and i’m trying this for very first time.so my question is how to perform step 4?
Jan 22, 2012 @ 23:22:11
Hi Prejin, turn off your phone and press and hold down Home+Power button for 5 seconds. This will boot your phone into Clockworkmod recovery mode. Then using the volume buttons, navigate to Wipe Data/Factory Reset and press the Power button to select it. Similarly, delete cache partition and Dalvik Cache.
Jan 26, 2012 @ 10:30:03

HI, Thanks for this fantastic rom! i installed it at last after my first brick!
Feb 06, 2012 @ 20:53:43
Hi! Anyone help doing this in Mumbai as this is too technical – thanks
Feb 06, 2012 @ 21:14:17
Dinesh Hello, I’m testing the rom, Excellent contribution
Here are some things I’ve noticed with the use:
1. The FFC works with the heel kernel (y)
2 – When installing the rom, disable the voodoo like you said earlier, when you turn the screen or off screen, appears to be a negative picture in a short time.
3 – Swype not work full
4 – If I am running winamp or Google music, and I want to see the general configuration of the phone, the sound is cut and the configuration of the cel that you are viewing close or lock
Feb 06, 2012 @ 21:16:51
Is the TALON KERNEL jeje, sorry
Feb 09, 2012 @ 13:55:56
Great findings Noel.
Yeah swype doesnt work so just go to beta.swype.com and download the latest beta version. It should work fine.
Install Bullet kernel to avoid negative effect while switching off the screen.
Not sure about the music thingy.

hey will my phone get network lockeded after this update, and after flashing rom through yr steps will i have to do something else also or will any problems occur?thankyou,im really scared as im flashing a rom for the 3rd or 4th time, thanks again.
May 27, 2012 @ 14:12:54
Hi Daniyal, if your phone is not unlocked, then even after flashing this ROM, it will remain locked to the original network operator. However, if you have unlocked it via official carrier, then it will forever remain unlocked no matter whichever ROM you flash.
